How to Maintain a Press and Curl

Press and Curls can last for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the care provided and the individual. Please believe if I spend $70 to get my hair pressed, I am going to learn how to upkeep my style for as long as I can. I am on my second week of my press and curl I am maintaining my look pretty well and I am going to share some tips with you guys to help you maintain your press and curl should you decide to do so.

How to maintain a press and curl

Always wrap your hair or do pin curls at night and wear a silk bonnet or scarf

For fuller pin curls use larger pins and for tighter curls use smaller pins

Do not over oil your hair, this will take away its bounce and weigh it down because when you do this your hair cannot breathe lightly oil or grease your scalp. Apply oils to scalp and it will go to your hair.

Protect your hair when in the shower by wearing a shower cap

Do not touch up your hair with a flat iron or curling iron until the 3rd week, keep heat styling tools in your hair to a minimum at least wait until the 2nd week, because heat can be very damaging to the hair.

When you get press and curls especially on a regular basis you do risk losing some of your curl pattern, because when direct heat is applied to your hair it breaks the bond in your hair. To avoid this simply limit your usage of direct heat that is applied to your hair, however each time you press your hair there is a chance that it could happen.
