Mineral Oil
There is tons of information on the net about product ingredients that are harmful to your hair. There was a point and time where I had come to the conclusion that mineral oil, was dangerous, and I made a point to avoid products that contain mineral oil as an ingredient.  My new conclusion if it works for your hair use it! Before labeling mineral oil as bad for our hair lets examine what mineral oil actually is.

What is mineral oil?

Mineral oil is a clear orderless oil derived from petroleum.

Why is it used in hair products?

It has emollient texture suitable for hydration. In fact, it is one of the best moisturizers because it helps prevent water from leaving your hair; it seals in moisture.

Why is there a lot of negative information about mineral oil ?

If you surf the web it is loaded with tons of information bashing mineral oil. There are claims that if you use it on your skin it will age you. It is also said that mineral oil will dry your hair out which is actually quite the contrary. There are also rumors that mineral removes vitamins from your hair or skin. All of this information is simply not accurate and is pretty much used as a marketing technique from “natural” companies, in efforts to persuade you to buy their product.

You have to make up your own mind about products that you decide to use in your hair. Do some independent research of your own on the topic and make up your mind and decide what you think about it.

There was a time where I was not keen at all towards trying Miss Jessie’s products because they do contain mineral oil or paraffinum liquidum. However the truth is,  Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme is one of the best moisturizers I have ever tried!
