Can You Swim With Crochet Braids?

Can You Swim With Crochet Braids?

Being that crochet braids have become a popular protective hairstyling option for many naturals, I am sure some of you are wondering “Can I wear this style for vacation?”. Well, it all depends on the type of hair that you use for your crochet braids.

If you went for the trendy twist out look using a marley hair curled with rods and dipped in hot water, your style is most likely going to be destroyed if you try swimming in it. Not to mention it will also be uncomfortable and too heavy.

Never fear naturalista! All hope is not lost. You can still have the joy of flaunting some awesome crochet braids on your vacay, you just have to go with a different hair type that can handle wear and tear from swimming.

The Freetress Bohemian brand is a better choice if you need a hair that can withstand going in and out of the pool. If your hair texture is not on the wavier side of things, you should do a full crochet braid install rather than leaving some hair out to avoid spending too much time blending your hair texture with the synthetic hair. Remember this is your vacation time! Make things as easy and hassle free as possible, you deserve a breather.

  1. Hello, I was wondering if this bohemian hair can be curled with hot water and perm rods and still hold the curl in and out of the water? The other article left me with the assumption that she just wear the hair in its natural state.

    1. In the previous article the hair was worn in it’s natural state and does hold curl in and out of the water. I am sure the hair probably could be curled with perm rods, but the curl that you create using rods most likely will not hold.

  2. Hey!! Love this. Was wondering how many packs of the. Kinky bohemian hair you linked to Amazon did you use? And did you cut hair at all before install?

    1. I only used two packs for my bohemian look and I cut the hair in half. However, I wanted a shorter shoulder length look like the pictures in this post. If you want something longer I would suggest going with 4 packs to be safe.

  4. Hi! Thanks for the advice! I was also wondering your advice on this:
My last Freetress deep twist hairstyle my hair braider braided it to my scalp about an inch and let the rest hang. I want to get the bohemian braids this time but I was wondering if I should stick to what the pack says and do a crochet braid technique or just do the braiding to scalp method?

By the way, I workout on a daily basis and tie up my hair occasionally. I’m wary about crochet braids because last time I had them, my braids would show in the back of my hair!

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this, I will definitely be trying out this hair for my upcoming trip!! I do have a couple of questions though! I will be on the island for 10 days and I pretty much plan on being in the water( beach or pool) everyday so would I have to wash my hair every single day or could I get a way with every other day? Also, I am still a lot confused about what a shampoo net is. I’ve tried googling it but no help there. Is it literally just like a hairnet?? How does it help to lessen frizz?
