Moisturize Your Hair Without Making it Too Greasy

Natural hair thrives when we nourish it with heavy creams for moisture but what we want to avoid is greasy hair. No one wants to get up from their chair and have Jheri Curl residue for everyone to see, it’s embarrassing and just not necessary. Here’s how you can achieve moisturized hair without the fear of leaving behind a “Felicia was here” oil stain wherever you go.

#1 Make sure that you are using an actual moisturizer; oils do not count.

Often people think that oils are moisturizers when they are not. They can be helpful to use after using a real moisturizer to prevent moisture loss, but on their own they do not moisturize hair. You should be using water or a water based product like a leave in conditioner first.

#2 When you are using a good product to begin with you don’t have too go overboard

A good moisturizer even when applied lightly will give you what you need. On wash day you may find the need to use the LOC method (read this post if you don’t know what the LOC Method is), but often times you may not even have to follow up with an oil or butter because a moisturizer will be enough.

#3 For wash day when you have to be more heavy handed with product aim to apply the LOC Method at night

This way when you wake up most of the moisture has already been absorbed into your hair.

#4 Apply products to your hair in sections

This helps you to apply products more evenly and thoroughly.

#5  Sometimes what your hair needs is water and not more product

Let the steam from the shower refresh your hair or spritz your hair with water to wake it up. You don’t always have to rely on a product, water helps to reactivate product already in your hair. Too much product will cause greasiness and buildup, which will ultimately prevent your strands from receiving moisture.

Learn how product buildup can cause your hair to be dry.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, I really enjoyed reading your article. I also wanted to add that a really great moisturizing conditioner that I love is the creme of nature pure honey hair mask. You might want to add it to your list after you try it!
